From Darkness to Light: Easter Vigil Celebrated at Valencia Church

The faithful of St Vincent Ferrer Church Valencia, gathered in deep devotion on the evening of April 4, 2026, to observe the Easter Vigil, the most sacred celebration in the Christian liturgical calendar, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ following the 40 day Lenten journey.

The solemn celebration began at 7:00 PM with the Service of Light. As darkness covered the surroundings, all lights within the church were extinguished, representing the world awaiting the light of Christ. Fr Antony Clany DSouza, Rector Gladsom Home Mangalore and Diocesan Vocation Promoter kindled the Paschal Candle from the blessed New Fire. Carrying the candle in procession toward the altar, he symbolized Christ as the light of the world. The congregation then lit their candles from the Paschal flame, gradually filling the church with a gentle, radiant glow.

Following this, the blessing of water took place. The congregation was sprinkled with holy water, marking a renewal of their baptismal promises and spiritual commitment.

The Liturgy of the Word included five readings from Sacred Scripture, recounting the journey of salvation history from Creation to the Resurrection. The singing of the Gloria marked a joyful turning point, accompanied by the unveiling of the image of the Risen Christ, signifying victory over sin and death.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the main celebrant Fr Antony Clany DSouza. He was joined by Parish Priest Fr Roque DSa, Assistant Parish Priest Fr Pradeep Rodrigues and Fr William Barracos as concelebrants.

The vigil concluded on a note of joy and spiritual renewal, as the faithful departed with hearts filled with hope, celebrating the promise of new life brought by the Resurrection.
