Maundy Thursday was solemnly observed at St Vincent Ferrer Church Valencia, as parishioners gathered in a spirit of prayer and reflection to mark the beginning of the Sacred Triduum. The evening celebration of the Holy Eucharist commenced at 6:00 PM on the church premises, drawing a large and devout congregation.
The liturgical service was led by Parish Priest Fr Roque DSa as the main celebrant, with Assistant Parish Priest Fr Pradeep Rodrigues, Fr Dr Jencil Alva, Fr Jason Pinto SDB and Fr Anisio Mota SDB concelebrating. The celebration centered on the remembrance of the Last Supper, highlighting Christ’s gift of the Eucharist and His enduring message of love and sacrifice.
A significant and moving moment of the service was the rite of the Washing of the Feet. Emphasizing humility and service, Fr Roque DSa reenacted this sacred gesture by washing the feet of twelve members of the parish, recalling Jesus’ example of selfless love and service to others.
Fr Dr Jencil Alva delivered a heartfelt homily, reflecting on how Jesus broke bread for humanity and offered Himself in sacrifice for the salvation of all. His message encouraged the faithful to live out this spirit of love and giving in their daily lives.
The faithful participated with deep devotion, reflecting on the true meaning of discipleship and the call to serve one another. Following the Eucharistic celebration, Fr Jencil led a period of adoration, offering prayers for all parishioners and for peace amid the current challenges affecting the world.
The evening concluded with the solemn transfer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, providing the congregation with an opportunity for quiet prayer and contemplation, marking a reverent beginning to the Sacred Triduum.
