Konkani Manyata Divas 2025 Celebrated with Grandeur at Valencia Parish

The 34th Konkani Manyata Divas was celebrated with great grandeur and cultural pride at Valencia Church on 24 August 2025, continuing a tradition that has been upheld for the past 24 years.

The celebrations began at 5:30 pm in the Golden Jubilee Hall. The guest of honour was renowned writer, director and Daijiworld Productions head, Stany Bela. The event was presided over by Parish Priest Fr Roque DSa, along with Assistant Parish Priest Fr Pradeep Rodrigues, Parish Council Vice President Ronald Rodrigues, Secretary Rita Menezes, and 21 Commissions Coordinator Steevan Rodrigues.

In his address, Stany Bela highlighted the richness and legacy of Konkani language, emphasizing its deep literary value, especially in poems and literature. He passionately spoke about the need for the younger generation to learn and understand Konkani, warning that without active use, the language risks fading into obscurity. He concluded by extending his wishes to all on the occasion of Konkani Day.

In his presidential address, Fr Roque DSa emphasized that Konkani is our language, and we must take pride in it. As Konkani speaking people, he urged everyone to speak the language and read it regularly to keep it alive. He also commended the team behind the program for their tireless efforts over the past two months. Additionally, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Gurkars, ward representatives and zone coordinators for taking the initiative and leading the cultural performances from each zone.

As part of the celebration, Walter and Jacintha Mascarenhas were honoured for their generous financial contributions towards the development of the church, a gesture warmly appreciated by the parish community.

The cultural program that followed saw enthusiastic participation from parishioners, with various zones of the parish presenting vibrant performances. The audience enjoyed the evening in a spirit of unity and celebration.

The program began with a welcome address by Fr Pradeep Rodrigues and concluded with a vote of thanks by Steevan Rodrigues. The event was gracefully compered by Belinda Rodrigues.

Around 1,400 parishioners witnessed the program, which concluded with a delicious traditional Mangalorean dinner, adding a perfect homely touch to the celebrations.
